A few days after Christmas, I asked my dad if he could put up some ceiling fans for us.
"No problem!"
He heads on up into the attic only to find that to get to the part above X-man's room, he had to go over a small wall AND fit into a tiny area. Yep, that was not going to work! On his way out of the attic, Great Grandpa just happened to miss the plywood up there and his foot went right through the ceiling. OUCH! So, no ceiling fan plus we had to make a call into a contractor to fix the ceiling.
Fast-forward to last weekend. Superdad found someone willing to come put up the fan. They, of course, had to go up to the attic to figure things out for themselves. Once they realized that supporting the fan from the top side of the ceilig was a no-go, they had to figure out another way to actually brace the fan. The way the light fixture was held to the ceiling was completely wrong for a fan. If a fan was just put up there, it would more than likely eventually fall down. No good in my book. After a trip to the Home Depot to get a piece that works from below and a few HOURS, the fan was up. I was so exited ...
X-man was NOT.
When I put X to bed that night, he asked if his new fan was going to fall. I guess he heard us all talking about bracing it and that just worried him. That night, Superdad had to stay in there until he fell asleep. The fan has been up for about a week and we still have not turned it on since that first day. Baby steps, right?
Some of the other changes around the house are on the outside. This weekend, we are having someone come clean our gutters and put up gutter gaurds. This may not seem like a big deal but really, it is. First, remember how tall our house is?
Yeah. To get up there is going to be a challenge. On top of that, the gutters are so full that when it rains, the water actually pours over the sides instead of running down inside of them. I am excited to not have holes in the ground from where the water is pounding on it when it rains.
Back to that picture of the house. That is from when we first moved in. WOW, things have changed. If you want to be reminded of what the outside of the house looked like this time last year, you can go here and here. The yard has come SUCH a long way since then.
But...that is for another post...one that includes pictures for comparison. I am very excited to see what this summer holds for the outside. Especially since the Superdad is home to help me out. He already helped me a bunch this past weekend and we have more plans for the outside for this coming weekend.
Stay tuned...more to come!
