Cleaning out the cabinets

After reading a few blog posts on cleaning out the pantry/cabinets, I decided to jump on the bandwagon.

I forgot to get a picture of the pantry before I started but here is a picture of the cabinet. I think that a little bit of everything was in there.  It was a one stop shop. Need art supplies? Got it. Want a snack? Got it. Need seasoning for beef jerky? Yours. Coasters anyone?

The first thing that I did was to take everyone thing out. Then I went through it all and got rid of the old and expired stuff. Honestly, though, why is it that in order to clean up a mess, you have to make an even bigger mess?

After I had done all that, I wiped everything down and started the daunting task of getting it all back in neatly.

I tried to organize like things together. The only thing that is in a random place is my external hard drives. I am working on finding a location in the house for a desk. I need a place that is not tucked away from everthing. But that is another post. Here are my three cabinets all nice and organized!

I hope it stays this way.

a home for the table

I finally found a place to put the table from this post. I am not sure if it is a permanent home but for now it will do.

The stairs in our house do not go straight up. There are a few (think 8-10) steps, a landing, and then more stairs. The stairs form a right angle with one another. I decided that this was a great place for table. I bought some $3 violets from Home Depot, put them in a nice pot from Big Lots and called it a day.

The great thing about this location is that I walk by it every day. This means that the flowers tend to get watered as often as they should.

Smile.

What the.....?

The other day, I came home to this:

Yes, those are my kitchen chairs stacked on one another. And yes, that is Maris looking at it with the same look that we all are.

What the....?

Ok, Ok, I will tell you. If you look right above Maris' head, you will see the the fireplace hearth. That is Maris' favorite place to lay and every time she lays down, she lets her paws slid down until they hit the piece of wood that is the barrier between the wood floors and the hearth. Over time, it had come up and needed to be reglued down. After Superdad glued it down, he needed something heavy to keep on it until it dried. Hence:

I do think it was a good idea, even if it did take me by surprise.

Wonderful Birthday

My husband rocks.

Today  was my birthday. I got up at my normal time and got ready for work. When I left, I kissed Superdad like I do every morning.

Nothing.

Later, at work, Superdad called me to ask me something and

Nothing.

He called again later on in the day to talk to me about something else and

Nothing.

Finally, I called him and asked him why he had not said "Happy Birthday" to me. I was actually really upset and feeling sorry for myself. The Superdad came up with some story saying "oh man, yesterday was your birthday. I am so sorry. Blah, blah blah"

Then, when I got home, he told me that I had to wait outside while he and X-man went inside to get something. They came back out a few minutes later with

A CARD!!!

I know, I know, it may not seem like a big deal, but really, it is. It has been at least 3 LOOOONG YEARS since I have gotten a card of any kind from the Superdad. I was STOKED! Inside, they had both signed it. I was sooo happy. Then, out of it fell another card...a gift card...to Macy's.

My birthday had just gotten better.

THEN, I came inside and there were FLOWERS! Not just any flowers but a big bucket of petunia's. He actually thought about it and got me flowers that I can plant instead of something that was going to die.

Good man!

Oh, and he got me cake. Who can resist cake?
