The little things

I hate clutter. I know that is not completely obvious by the mess that I showed you in the last post. But really, I hate when things are messy. It makes me feel anxious and I can't really think straight. Lately, one of my biggest pet peeves has been the throw blankets just being haphazardly thrown on the couch when they are not being used.

I ended up getting a quilt rack to hang the throw blankets on. It really just helps things look much cleaner. What do you think?

My Trouble Area

No, today we are not going to talk about my mid-section. Even though that is a trouble area for me. We are, instead, going to talk about the trouble area in my house. Well, one of them.

Everyone has that area in the house that no matter what you do, it just stays a mess. I am almost embarrassed to show you mine. Be forewarned, it is bad.

As you see, the area next to my sink is the catch all for ALL my mail. I hate mail, all of it. Usually, I glance at it and then toss it into the pile. That pile there has not been touched, except to add things to it, since before Christmas. That pile scares me. Does it scare you the same way? It might be worse if I should you the close up.

What do you think now? Yeah, thought so. You are scared for me.

Yesterday, I told you about a filing cabinet that I ordered and had almost finished putting together.  X-man ended up being sick today, so not only was I able to finish the cabinet, but i was also able to attack this frightful mess. Now, before you start wondering, X-man was in a mood where he did not want to get off the couch, at all. So, I was not ignoring him all day to tend to this, but rather just letting him chill and try to get better. I did sit and watch many movies with him while getting in some quality cuddle time.

After working for a few hours, off and on, I was FINALLY able to see my counter top. Celebrate with me!

Look at all that space! Every time I walk by, I can't help but smile. It looks so clean and inviting. Here is a close up.

I can't wait to put the pull-knobs onto the cabinets. It will make it look that much better. Here is the finished file cabinet. The papers on the inside shelf are for getting our taxes done. We will probably wait until the middle of next month so that is a safe place for them.

A Small File

I hate putting things together. I can do it and I can do it well but that does not mean I have to like it. The other day I ordered a new filing cabinet from Target. After I ordered it, I thought about it and realized that I would probably have to put it together.

When the box came in the mail, I had hope that it would not be too many pieces. My hopes were dashed the instant that I opened the box and saw the amount of screws.

Then, I opened the ridiculously heavy box and almost decided to wait for the Super-Dad to come home so he could put it together. My arm has been aching alot lately and I was not looking forward to the amount of screws it looked like I had to screw in. Instead, I gave a BIG sigh and started in on it.

An hour and a half later, I had the main part of the file cabinet/stand finished. I was completely exhausted, so I decided that the drawer would have to wait for another day.

Come back tomorrow for the finished product!

3 year olds

Three year olds do not function the same way as adults or two year olds. They function on thier own time, in thier own way and only when they want to. They have fantastic imaginations that seem to become more creative every day. Tonight, X-man and I were watching an Olympic hockey game (Canada vs Switzerland). X-man was completely enthralled with it for about 15 mins. He then got up, told me that the floor was ice and we were skating. Just like on TV. He was then off and running skating through the house, having a blast! It was very contagious and I could not help but to join him. Fantastic fun!

Even though I know a very imaginative creature lives in the same house with me, I am still sometimes suprised to find dinosaurs in with the clean dishes...

....and geometric shapes made with salmon and green beans.
Some of the nices surprises, though, are the ones you know of that still make you stop for a second. Like seeing that Ohh SOOO EXCITING Spiderman in your nice, perfectly decorated bathroom.

I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Organizing

This morning, I cleaned, organized, rearranged and then admired the playroom. I was able to take many toys down to the basement to wait until spring and "yardsale season." This ended up freeing up alot of space in the playroom. All afternoon, X-man played in his playroom. He took one toy out at a time and would put it away when he was ready to go to the next one. Having room to play let him embrace his budding imagination. It was awesome to get 45 mins to myself on a Sunday afternoon.

Just a bit MIA

As I am sure it is for everyone once in awhile, life here has been a bit hectic. It won't stop snowing!

Since it is snowing ...and snowing...and snowing. I have been doing some cooking and baking

and have been keeping X-man happy with a few of these

To work off all of this food, I have been shoveling all the snow that just keeps falling!
